Basic Surgical Skills

23rd – 24th May 2019

This month saw the return of The ICENI Centre’s Basic Surgical Skills course, led by Mr Abdusalam Abu-Own, Consultant in General & Vascular surgery.

This intensive 2-day course, developed and quality assured by the Royal College of Surgeons, provided trainees with an introduction into basic gowning, gloving and handling of surgical instruments, as well as the chance to experience hands-on tissue handling with techniques in suturing, knot tying, tendon repair and the removal of cysts, among other topics, concluding with an introduction to endoscopic surgery.

The participants came away from the course with more confidence in their techniques and are looking forward to putting their improved skills into practice, as one attendee expressed…’my knot tying has improved significantly.’ And another is looking to share with her colleagues the techniques she learnt and incorporate them into their practice in the future.

If you missed this course, we are running another on 3rd & 4th October 2019. Don’t miss out, book your place today: www.icenicentre.org/courses/core-surgery/
