A warm welcome was extended to nine Chinese clinicians in October when they arrived at the Trust to commence a 12-week clinical attachment. This is part of a two-stage ICENI Centre Fellowship Programme that has come to fruition a year after Dr Neill Moloney signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Trust and Professor Jin of the General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University (GMNMU).
The group cover 4 specialities – 2 histopathology doctors, 2 orthopaedics doctors, 2 GI doctors and one colorectal doctor, based at Colchester Hospital and 2 orthopaedic doctors who are based at Ipswich Hospital.
Whilst in the UK, the clinicians have the chance to observe operations, attend multi-disciplinary team meetings and gain an understanding of the structure and workings of the NHS. Dr Shi Lei said ‘We are very grateful for this opportunity to learn and share best practice when we are back in China’.
After completion of the Clinical Attachment, the Drs will interview for an ICENI Clinical fellowship post before returning to China to complete the required examinations and apply for a GMC registration.
