Healthcare Science Masterclass 2020
The ICENI Centre welcomed for the second year running, year 9 students from Essex schools to take part in the 6 week healthcare science masterclasses.
Following on from the success of last year, the 6 sessions were led by qualified professionals within ESNEFT, (East Suffolk and North East Essex NHS Foundation Trust) that covered the number of different specialties and roles that are available within the health sector, ranging from surgeon, anaesthetist, scrub nurse, recovery team and radiologist. Each masterclass provided the students with not only hands-on experience but also the different pathways and opportunities that are available to them to gain a career in healthcare.
The final masterclass brought the students together with their parents for a celebration of the 6 weeks. They had the chance to hear inspiring stories from a number of speakers, providing personal insights in what it means to work in the NHS. Dr Shane Gordon, Director of Strategy, research and innovation and Richard Spencer, non-executive member of ESNEFT who also presented the students with their certificates. Jim Wilkinson, Digital skills partnership coordinator from SELEP (South East Local Enterprise Partnership), spoke about the importance for students to be able to engage and adapt to the changing environment within technology and social media.
