3 Month Clinical Attachment Programme
General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University, China
In 2019 the ICENI Centre welcomed 9 Chinese doctors to ESNEFT as part of the ICENI Centre International Clinical Attachment & Fellowship Programme. The 9 clinicians (4 x orthopaedic surgeons, 1 colorectal surgeon, 2 x gastroenterologists and 2 x pathologists) were fully funded by their hospital – the General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University (GHNMU) for the 3-month Attachment
‘Impressive’ said, spinal orthopaedic surgeon Xuehua Zhan, when asked to describe his experience. Dr Zhan’s clinical supervisor Mr David Cummings (Ipswich Hospital) also believes his involvement was ‘educational’ for himself. The doctors were ‘excellent to have around and discuss differences and similarities in our approach to patient care’, he said.
The GHNMU doctors, based at both Ipswich and Colchester hospitals, all agree that the opportunity to visit the UK and learn NHS systems and processes has broadened their horizons and had a positive impact on their clinical work.
Penny O’Toole, Business Development Manager at the ICENI Centre, said the Chinese clinicians were very hard working and enthusiastic to embrace every opportunity offered by the departments and thanked the clinical supervisors and their colleagues for providing such a warm welcome and support during their stay with us. ‘We are looking forward to inviting the doctors back as fellows once they have completed all the processes required to gain GMC registration’.
We are looking forward to our next group of Doctors from Ningxia Hospital alongside 4 Nurses joining the Programme in 2022.
